Marine Mammals
Stellar sea lions, harbor seals and harbor porpoise are regular summertime visitors to our waters and we usually see them everyday.
Sea lions and seals haul themselves up onto the rocks to nurture their young, establish territory or just soak in some sun.
Harbor and Dall’s porpoises are frequent visitors to our waters. Dall’s porpoises love to ride the bow wake and surf around behind the boat.
Whale watching is the reason we moved here. The majestic and graceful humpback whale tends to frequent our cruising grounds in the early and late summer. Whales and orca are our absolute favorite marine animals. We keep a keen eye out for any signs they are in are area and keep in radio contact with our fellow boaters for any sightings.
Orca are unpredictable visitors to our area but we do see them many times a season. Will yours be one of the lucky trips to see them? You’ll never know unless you go.
We have extra pairs of binoculars so don’t worry if you didn’t bring any. Our captains and crew know the signs and search constantly for opportunities to enhance your trip.
Eagles!
Southeast Alaska boasts the highest density of nesting Bald Eagles. We’ll see lots of them perched in the spruce trees or diving for their next meal. You’ll see other rare birds including the Arctic Tern, which has the longest migration of any animal on earth. We often see Marbled Murrelet, Surf Scoter, Gillemot, Oyster Catcher and more.
